• Kyoya is a diabetic, mostly diet controlled. Nobody outside of his immediate family is aware.
• Isn’t much of a cook, and he has a habit of adding the hottest sauce he can find, to most of it. Bland rice? Hot sauce. Plain noodles? Eggs? A few drops make just about anything tastier! He doesn’t usually indulge during club meetings (because having watery eyes or a hot flush aren’t the appearance he’s aiming for!) but when they have commoner’s ramen, he tends to reach for the spiciest option available.
• Kyoya is quite careful when it comes to his presentation, and that includes how he smells. He favours a high end cologne with a cool, aquatic scent, with fresh notes of wintergreen and rain.
• Kyoya’s favourite food is chawan mushi, especially with soup poured over the top. It isn’t particularly fancy or exclusive, but it tastes good… and even Kyoya has comfort food!
• Kyoya has very few nicknames. As a child, his parents didn’t encourage them, though Fuyumi always called him Kyo-chan when his parents weren’t around. The other members of the Host Club call him Mommy; which should annoy him, but strangely doesn’t. More than a few people call him the Shadow King— but almost never to his face!
• Kyoya doesn’t accessorize often, as he doesn’t consider his glasses an accessory. He does have a medical bracelet that his sister bought him when he was much younger, but he’s never worn it often, and it’s been gathering dust in a box for years. He doubt it even fits anymore.
• Kyoya follows the Shinto ceremonies out of culture and habit, but they don’t particularly impact his life. He doesn’t have any belief in God, or Gods (there is no singular deity figure in Shintoism) and he sees rain and wind as weather, not as Kami. To put a label on it, Kyoya is Agnostic, bordering on Athiest.
• Kyoya hasn’t broken anything recently, but as a child he broke his collarbone when his brother, Akito, pushed him off his bed. His wrist while learning to ski, when he tried to catch himself a landed poorly. And his ankle, along with several small foot bones, when his brother (Akito, again..) dropped a heavy wooden box on it. Accidents will happen…
• Kyoya is the youngest of four siblings: Yuuichi (27), Fuyumi (25), Akito (21) and himself.
Yuuichi is the eldest, married, the obvious heir apparent; and while Kyoya has great respect for him, and his accomplishments, he isn’t close to his eldest brother.
Fuyumi is his only sister, she frets and fusses over him, and would coddle her ‘baby brother’ if he let her (he never will!). She was old enough that she often took care of him as a small child, and the only sibling he’s close to.
Akito has a wicked temper, is uptight, mean-spirited, and seems to take delight in prying into Kyoya’s personal life. As the only two children living full-time at home, Kyoya tends to give his brother a wide berth, avoiding him as often as he can.
BIOGRAPHY
The third son, and youngest child of the wealthy and powerful Ootori family, Kyoya was raised with an understanding of his place in the world: at the top of the pile, but under his elder brothers. For a long time, this pressure from his father to surpass his brothers– but without the rewards that come with it– was a heavy weight for the ambitious man. Nothing was ever quite good enough, and it seemed like he was forever able to meet, but not exceed, his brother’s accomplishments.
These days, Kyoya is the top of his class, and outwardly following the path his father expects. However, on his own time, he has been quietly building up his own staggering stock portfolio, and secretly buying out portions of his father’s holdings.
He may not be the patriarch of his family– that will fall to his eldest brother, Yuuichi– but he won’t spend the rest of his life dancing to his father’s tune. He has decided to make a name for himself, on his own merit. And is well on his way to accomplishing that goal already.
Kyoya is exceptionally brilliant, hard working, and rational– outwardly charming and self assured. However, he’s also standoffish, proud, stubborn to a fault, and very difficult to read. Kyoya sees much of the world as a series of transactions, rather than emotionally committing himself.
